Julko Fullop, M.D., ’00, Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine
Dr. Fullop was sincere when he said he wanted to come back and practice in southern Illinois. After gaining admission to medical school, he persuaded his local county hospital to pick up the tab in exchange for returning to the area to practice medicine. After setting a record for orthopaedic injuries during medical school, he spent five years at the University of Florida in Gainesville, figuring out how to fix his own and many other injuries. He returned to his hometown, Mount Carmel, Ill., to start an orthopaedic program in the rural area.
He is employed with Wabash Orthopaedic Surgery & Sports Medicine in Mount Carmel, Illinois and is the only surgeon in the area. Since his return, Wabash General Hospital has seen a 30 percent growth in employment. He also has been helped numerous students from his home region become physicians and health professionals so that they may return to southern Illinois. He hopes to have fellow alumni join him in Mount Carmel.
Dr. Fullop met his wife during medical school in Springfield, IL. They now reside in Mount Carmel, IL with their two boys, ages 3 years and 8 months.
