Wendy (Dingel) Ledesma, M.D., ’06, Internal Medicine
Dr. Ledesma is chief resident in internal medicine at Aurora Healthcare in Milwaukee, Wis. She will be starting a three-year hematology/oncology fellowship at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Carbone Cancer Center in July. Wendy, along with a team of Aurora Cancer experts, have performed more than 300 free clinical breast exams to screen, educate, and support uninsured Latinas at "Dia de la Mujer" sponsored by Aurora Cancer Care (which provides financial and in-kind donations to support prevention and early detection education and screenings in the local communities across eastern Wisconsin).
Additionally, Wendy has been an annual speaker for the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition, volunteers weekly at The Bread of Healing, a free clinic for uninsured patients, and speaks to middle school female students about preventive medicine, self respect and making good decisions through WYSE (Women and Youth Supporting Each Other). She is dedicated to the community she serves and goes above and beyond to help educate and serve those in greatest need. Wendy was the recipient of the Leonard Tow Humanism in Medicine Award at her SIU/SOM graduation for creating new community service opportunities for students and also received a Distinguished Service Award at her internal medicine residency graduation. She is married to Roberto, a community attorney, and has three beautiful children; Robert, Karina, and Alejandro.
