Peter Lourgos, M.D., J.D., ’99, Forensic Psychiatry
After graduating from SIU School of Medicine’s MD/JD Program, Dr. Lourgos completed his residency in general psychiatry at Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill., as its chief resident. He completed a one-year forensic psychiatry fellowship training program at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. He is board certified in general and forensic psychiatry.
In 2004, Dr. Lourgos became a staff forensic psychiatrist at Forensic Clinical Services, a clinical department operating under the direction of the Office of the Chief Judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County. Established in 1914, the department has the distinction of being the nation's first adult psychiatric court clinic. In January 2006, he was promoted to assistant director of the department involving administrative and clinical duties. As a forensic psychiatrist, he evaluates criminal defendants and provides the court with an expert opinion regarding their current mental state (fitness to stand trial) and mental state at the time of the offense (sanity) and provides testimony on his findings as needed.
He and his wife, Evangeline Leventis, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune recently purchased their first home in Niles, IL.
