Winston (Joey) Townsend, M.D., ’93, Internal Medicine
Dr. Townsend completed his residency in internal medicine in 1996 and stayed on as chief resident until 1997. He joined Springfield Urgent Care & worked multiple ERs to repay student loans. He served as medical director of the Emergency Department at Carlinville Area Hospital until June 2008. Dr. Townsend has maintained his practice at Urgent Care (now Priority Care), where he sees walk-in as well as primary care patients. He works with fellow alumni Robert Juranek, M.D., ’79, Saira Wahab-Silas, M.D., ’98, Diana Widicus, M.D., ’78. In October 2009. Dr. Townsend was appointed medical director of the Springfield division of the newly formed Hospital Sisters Health Systems Medical Group.
He and his wife have four children, ages 5 through 21. In his free time, Dr. Townsend enjoys boating, swimming, traveling, and reading. He serves on the board of the Hope School, is involved with the American Diabetes Association, and the American Cancer Society.
