Flow Cytometry Facility

The Flow Cytometry Facility occupies approximately 300 square feet and is a fully equipped high speed cell sorting and cell analyzing research laboratory. The facility, which houses a Becton-Dickinson FACS Vantage flow cytometer, features five color cell analysis with 488nm, 360-365nm and 636nm excitation capabilities and electronic cell sorting in a temperature control environment and a Becton-Dickinson FacsCalibur benchtop flow cytometer which features 4 color capabilities with 488nm argon; 633nm HeNe excitation capabilities. The FacsCalibur was donated to SIU-SM in October 1999 by the Community Blood Bank since they no longer had a use for it. The Facs Vantage was purchased in FY'93 with funds from an NIH Shared Instrumentation Grant. This laboratory has a full time experienced operator who assists researchers in the development of protocols, teaching of flow cytometric techniques and is responsible for the daily operation of the facility. The flow cytometer is maintained under service contract with Becton-Dickinson. The Flow Cytometry Facility is located at 801 North Rutledge, room 2364.
