Let the Reunion Class Gifts Challenge Begin

Class reunion is an opportunity to say “thank you” and to advance medicine through another generation of SIU physicians. Each year, alumni from each reuniting class commemorate their reunion with a special gift to the Reunion Class Gift fund.

Any gift made between now and December 31, 2016 counts toward Reunion Class Gift totals. When you make a five-year pledge, the total pledge amount will count toward your contribution to your Class Gift, not just the first-year payment.

Class giving totals are measured both as total dollars contributed and class participation numbers. Your contribution may be directed to any School of Medicine program.

  • Gifts to the School of Medicine Alumni Scholarship Fund ensure that educational opportunities are here for bright students from diverse backgrounds who might otherwise not have the finances to attend medical school. The reunion classes of 1976 and 2001 may direct their gifts to their class endowed scholarship funds. These gifts both increase the endowment corpus and assist medical students.
  • Gifts to the School of Medicine Office of the Dean and Provost Excellence Fund make it possible for the School of Medicine to respond to emerging opportunities such as seed funding for new programs, outreach programs and faculty recognition and development.
  • The Resident Resource Fund provides our graduate learners the means to participate in professional development opportunities including specialty conferences and presentations and research programs.
  • The Student Resource Fund enhances the student experience at SIU School of Medicine by funding educational and social needs that cannot be met through other fund sources. Projects must benefit a large number of students and must meet an immediate and demonstrable student need. Students, faculty and staff submit requests for funding in January.

Last year we began the annual Reunion Class Gifts Challenge, a friendly competition among reunion classes. The Dean’s Cup will be awarded by Dean & Provost Jerry Kruse to the reunion class with the greatest participation in the Reunion Class Gift fund. Each year’s winning reunion class is added to the cup which is displayed in the Dean’s Lobby of the Springfield Instructional Facility throughout the year.

The winner of the 2015 Class Gift Challenge was the Class of 1980, which raised $19,100. Now more than ever, the School appreciates the generosity of all alumni to advance learning.
