The Simmons Cancer Institute at SIU

The SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU is 63,000 square feet. With three floors and a lower level, it consolidates most of the School's multi-disciplinary cancer clinics, now located in several hospital buildings, along with research and outreach services.

This beautiful stained glass window is located on the second floor of the cancer institute. The piece was created by Al Sievers of Batavia, Il.

Healing Garden

"In terms of healing, a garden and the ability for patients to have that opportunity to step away from what is going on in their head and relax is so important," said Dr. K. Thomas Robbins, director of the SIU Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

There is a walkway between The Baylis Medical Building and The Breast Center to help with easier access.

The Women’s Health Care Cancer Center is located on Level 2 and includes X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, nine exam rooms and a minor procedure room. Also located here are SIU’s offices for cancer research and clinical trials teams as well as an office for the Breast Cancer Network of Strength support group.

Breast Team at SCI

The Breast Center has been in existence since 1998.

It was one of the first one hundred breast centers to be awarded accreditation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. Our staff physicians are specifically trained in all aspects of breast health including breast cancer.

Our MISSION STATEMENT is to provide breast care to women in central and southern Illinois that is patient centered, comprehensive, multidisciplinary and research based for all our patients.
