Healing Garden

"In terms of healing, a garden and the ability for patients to have that opportunity to step away from what is going on in their head and relax is so important," said Dr. K. Thomas Robbins, director of the SIU Cancer Institute at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

Walkway

There is a walkway between The Baylis Medical Building and The Breast Center to help with easier access.

Wigs

The “Just for You” Boutique offers wigs, hats, scarves at no cost to breast cancer patients and other cancer patients with limited financial resources. The SIU Breast Center is pleased to offer these services to our patients.  Services are free to those who cannot afford services, have no insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, or have limited financial resources; all others can obtain services through donations.

Services are free to those who cannot afford services, have no insurance, Medicare or Medicaid, or have limited financial resources; all others can obtain services through donations.

The boutique works in cooperation with the local American Cancer Society to provide free wigs and wig fittings to anyone who has lost their hair due to chemotherapy or other illness.  Hats and scarves are also available.  A trained volunteer is available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM.

A trained prosthesis fitter is available during the same hours to make sure women are properly sized for their items. Patients are invited to make an appointment and come into the salon for a personalized fitting. While appointments are preferred, walk-ins are also welcome.

It is important physically and emotionally for women to have well fitting bras and prosthesis as soon as possible following the procedure.  The prosthesis provides balance to the side of the body replacing the weight of the previous breast.  This allows the body to adjust and heal without strain to the shoulder, back and neck area.  Emotionally, the woman can feel comfortable in her clothes and appearance.
Funding for the Boutique is through a grant from the Illinois Department of Public Health, Office of Women’s Health and the Susan G. Komen Foundation – Decatur Affiliate.  Donations from the Illinois Rural Carriers Association and the Auxillary have also assisted in funding the Boutique.  Services from the American Cancer Society are provided through the generous donations of those who support ACS and their activities.  The Breast Center and our patients are thankful for all funding from all sources.

Donations to help support "Just For You" can be made at the time of service or sent to:
