New SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute Building

Progress on the SimmonsCooper Cancer Institute at SIU building in Springfield, IL is gaining momentum.  This new facility will be located on Rutledge street between Carpenter and Miller streets.  The new facility will support a translational research laboratory; a center for outreach which will focus the institute’s efforts in central and southern Illinois; and consolidation of SIU School of Medicine’s multi-disciplinary clinics to include breast, head and neck, lung and prostate cancers and the hematology oncology clinic.  It will have patient areas such as rooms for support group meetings and a cancer learning resource center.

“It is tremendously exciting for us to be able to move forward in the development of this special place for people with cancer,” says Dr. K. Thomas Robbins, Director of the Institute.  This is a perfect time for individuals in the region to become involved, perhaps making a gift in memory of a family member.  “Major gifts allow us to expand the building at this early stage,” explains Dr. Robbins.”
