This award is intended to support the career development of established independent investigators who show great promise for a national leadership role in investigative work related to lung disease biology, traditional clinical studies related to patient care, and behavioral and psychosocial matters relevant to lung disease. Awardees are expected to devote their full-time, and in no case less than 75 percent of their time, to research. |

Award is to support the training of scientific investigators in adult and pediatric pulmonary medicine and lung biology. At the time of application, an applicant must hold a doctoral degree or have comparable qualifications. The M.D. applicant must have completed clinical training, have some research experience, and be entering the fourth or fifth year of research fellowship training. |

UAL invites grant applications for institutional research that studies lung cancer. The foundation is particularly interested in the genetic basis and biology of bronchoalveolar carcinoma as well as novel therapeutic approaches for the treatment of this disease. This funding is intended primarily as seed money for promising new work. It is not for supporting research where funding has either lapsed or has been previously disapproved. Preference will be given to applications where indirect costs are minimal or nonexistent. |

Applicant must hold a doctoral degree and faculty appointment, and have completed two years of postdoc research training. PA to support investigators working on epidemiological and behavioral studies examining risk factors affecting lung health. Areas of particular interest to the ALA are psychosocial lung health research, behavioral lung health research, health services and health policy research, epidemiological and biostatistical lung health research, and health education. A small amount of funding is available for asbestos-related research. |
