Clinics, Physicians and Cancer Care Teams

Our multidisciplinary team of physician sub specialists and health care professionals meet weekly to discuss diagnosed cancer cases and treatments. Each member of our Cancer Care Team brings their expertise to different aspects of the patient’s disease process and treatment options.

Breast Center

The Breast Center at SIU provides care that is patient centered, comprehensive, interdisciplinary and research based. The breast cancer care team consists of an oncologist, surgeon, plastic surgeon, radiologist, pathologist and social worker who provide diagnosis, treatment and observation guided by evidence-based medicine. Colorectal Cancer Clinic

The Colorectal Clinic provides comprehensive care for patients with colorectal cancer. The clinic uses a multidisciplinary care approach and gives patients access to research-based and state-of-the-art treatment. For more information, go to www.siumed.edu/surgery/general/colorectal/

Gynecologic Oncology Clinic

The Gynecologic Oncology team approach ensures multidisciplinary care and access to fresh perspectives on gynecologic cancers. Participation in critical clinical and basic science research will provide our patients with access to the latest in progressive and innovative treatments and will help advance the field of cancer care for all. Head and Neck - HANOT Clinic

The Head and Neck team provides coordinated health care aimed at optimizing the prevention, early diagnosis and management of head and neck cancers. During a patient’s visit, a head and neck surgeon, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist work together to determine the most current and appropriate treatment. Hematology and Oncology Clinic

The Hematology/Oncology team provides diagnosis and treatment for various forms of cancer and blood disorders guided by evidence-based medicine. It provides care to patients through a multidisciplinary approach and offers more than 100 national, regional and locally-originated clinical trials. Dr. John E. Melanoma Center

The Melanoma team provides patient care using expertise in melanoma diagnosis and treatment. The team’s mission is to provide comprehensive melanoma care and assistance to patients and their families. Meet the team at www.siumed.edu/medicine/dermatology/

Neuro Oncology Clinic

The Neurological Oncology Clinic at SCI is the only clinic providing this subspecialty service in the region. Dr. Ayman Omar is the Director of Neurological Oncology and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He completed a 2-year fellowship at the Princess Margaret Hospital, University of Toronto, Toronto, Canada, residency in Neurology at the University of Missouri - Columbia and a PhD and postdoctoral training in cellular and molecular Neurosciences at the University of Ottawa, Ottawa, Canada. He sub specializes in the management of a wide array of central and peripheral nervous system tumors as well as neurological complications of cancer and it's treatments.

Dr. Omar has special interest in the management of primary central nervous system lymphoma, leptomeningeal metastases (cancer spread to the brain and spinal cord coverings), hemangioblastomas and hemangiopericytomas. He has recently discovered a new treatment for surgically unresectable spinal cord hemangioblastomas using a molecularly-targeted approach.

Pediatric Oncology Clinic

The Pediatric Oncology team is home to the only pediatric oncology specialists in central and southern Illinois and is dedicated to treating patients with various pediatric cancers and blood disorders. It also provides cancer genetic testing. Pediatric oncologists, oncology nurses, pediatric surgeons and a pediatric urologist to collaborate with St. John’s Children’s Hospital to provide support services. Prostate Center

The Prostate Center medical staff provides care for men with prostate cancer and other urologic malignancies as well as those who are at risk of developing prostate cancer. The center offers screening and diagnosis as well as contemporary options for treatment. The team provides individualized education and support through all phases of care. Lung - Thoracic Oncology Program Clinic

The Thoracic Oncology clinic provides multidisciplinary care for patients and families needing treatment of thoracic cancers. For each patient visit, the team includes a medical oncologist, a radiation oncologist, a surgeon, a pulmonologist, nurse practitioner and social worker who determine the best treatment plan guided by evidence-based medicine.
