Center for Clinical Research (CCR) employee Whitney Zahnd, MS co-authored and presented a community based research poster last fall at the 142nd annual American Public Health Association (APHA) Meeting and Expo in New Orleans, Louisiana.  Reflecting the APHA’s growing interest in geographical effects on health, the theme of the conference was “Healthography: How where you live affects your health and wellbeing.”

Innovative use of Medical Simulation Model to Test Novel Fetal Monitoring Device

The SIU School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has initiated a new study that may decrease the risk of fetal death in high-risk pregnancies by using a portable non-invasive smart device. Dr. Robert Abrams, division chief of Maternal Fetal Medicine is presently collaborating with Dr. Nazeih Botros, Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, in developing a system that monitors, records, and analyzes fetal movement in real-time.

CCR’s Botchway selected for NIH course

Dr. Albert Botchway, Research Associate at the Center for Clinical Research (CCR) recently attended the 2014 National Institute on Minority and Health Disparities Course in Bethesda, Maryland.

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) offered the course free of charge to all accepted applicants.  Botchway was notified of his acceptance on June 25.  There were over 400 applicants who applied for 93 spots in the course.

CCR’s Bullard named A/P employee of the quarter

          Julie Bullard, Senior Clinical Research Coordinator at the Center for Clinical Research (CCR) has been named the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (SIUSM) Administrative/Professional of the quarter.

          Julie was surprised to find out the news during a CCR Projects meeting on Monday, July 28 when SIUSM Clinical Assessment Coordinator Mary Aiello announced the honor in front of Julie’s colleagues.

Whitaker earns LSS Green Belt

     CCR’s Whitaker earns Lean Six Sigma green belt

       Tiffany Whitaker earned her Lean Six Sigma green belt on June 26th after completing 57 class hours and a quality improvement project in the management philosophy program.

       According to Whitaker, Lean Six Sigma is customer and process focused, providing a disciplined approach with well defined roles and infrastructure using statistical and data-based decisions providing bottom line financial benefit.
