Statistics & Research Informatics Core (SRIC)

The SRIC serves to support the clinical, basic science, educational, and administrative research needs of SIU SM’s faculty with:

Statistical Support
The statistical support function within the Center for Clinical Research includes statistical modeling design and related data activities such as:

The staff provides expertise in a variety of statistical programs and has over 30 years of creating statistical models and study designs for basic science, clinical, educational, administrative, population, and translational research.

Health Outcomes Research
The health outcomes or health services research function within the Center for Clinical Research includes assessment of quality and effectiveness of producing desired outcomes as a cost-effective measure through assessment of hospital and health systems, government, and large health care records databases. With this research focus and data sources, CCR staff can perform the following health outcomes related tasks:

The staff can provide expertise in this research aimed at analyzing the effects of patterns of care on outcomes especially as they related to quality and cost-effectiveness.

Translational Research
The translational function within the Center for Clinical research includes assisting staff in a variety of functions to bridge basic and clinical research and bridge clinical and community research. This includes assisting faculty in:

This core will help enable researchers bring research from the bench to the bedside and from the bedside to the community.

Research Informatics
The research informatics function within the Center for Clinical Research includes research project design and related data activities such as:

In addition, staff also provides expertise in using and managing research software and converting and formatting data for use with multiple applications. Their work in de-identification and other function allows them to act as an honest broker to ensure regulatory compliance.

Sources of Geography Based Descriptive Data [PDF]
A variety of data repositories are available from which descriptive data can be retrieved and used to help describe the demographic and sociological makeup of a community, area, or county. Additionally, such data can help describe the overall health, the prevalence of a certain disease or risk factor, the health behaviors, and the availability and quality of health care services of a given area. This information can then be used for internal description of a hospital’s or public health department’s service area, external use for grant application or manuscript preparation, and other uses.
