Training Information
Training
All SIU P&S Members/Employees, medical residents and clinical/departmental personnel will be required to attend an annual education and training session. The education and training session will include a review of the written compliance policies and procedures.
In-house training sessions on proper professional fee coding (CPT-4 and ICD-9), proper medical record documentation requirements, and other compliance issues will be periodically offered to the SOM community. Orientation sessions for new employees will be provided on an as needed basis. Please refer to the WebCT link for the training program applicable to your department.
Education
The SOM and SIU P&S are committed to the implementation of the following procedures for internal monitoring of compliance to applicable laws, rules, policies and guidelines governing professional fee billings.

The Office of Compliance and the SIU P&S Compliance Office will conduct internal reviews of professional fee billings submitted for reimbursement under Medicare and Medicaid or other government programs by SIU P&S members for adherence to applicable regulations and guidelines. External expertise may be brought under contract to assist the SOM, and/or SIU P&S in meeting this objective.

The Office of Compliance and the SIU P&S Compliance Office will periodically review contracts and other written agreements to ensure compliance with federal and state self-referral laws.

A sample audit of every clinical department and division’s professional fee billings will be conducted. The outcome of these reviews will be shared with the individual SIU P&S member or
SOM employee and clinic/department administrator.
