Illinois Sexual Assault and Medical Forensic Services 2-hour Training

Online Course - 2-hour Training
The office of the Illinois Attorney General Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Program has made available a FREE two-hour online training
to hospitals pursuant to Section 10(b) of the Sexual Assault Survivors Emergency Treatment Act (SASETA).
The Illinois Sexual Assault and Medical Forensic Services 2-hour Training has been developed “…for emergency department clinical staff to meet the
training requirement established in [Section 2(a) of SASETA]. Notwithstanding any other law regarding ongoing licensure requirements, such training
shall count toward the continuing medical education and continuing nursing education credits for physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice registered nurses,
and registered professional nurses.” 410 ILCS 70/10(b)
At the conclusion of the Illinois Sexual Assault and Medical Forensic Services 2-hour Training, participants should be able to:
- Describe current sexual assault epidemiology
- Review the Neurobiology of Trauma
- Review current Illinois legislation that mandates the care and services to be provided to Illinois sexual assault survivors, including child sexual assault survivors
- Demonstrate the steps of performing a medical forensic exam, including the evidence collection kit
- Evaluate how to screen for and treat a patient who may have experienced a drug-facilitated sexual assualt
The SIU School of Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 2.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
The American Academy of Physician Assistants accepts certificates of participation for educational activities certified for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™
from organizations accredited by ACCME. Physician assistants may receive a maximum of 2.0 AAP Category 1 CME credits for completing this program.
The American Academy of Nurse Practitioners National Certification Program accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by the ACCME.
The SIU School of Medicine is preapproved as a continuing nursing education provider pursuant to Section 1300.130, subsection c), 1), B) and P) of the Illinois Department of
Financial and Professional Regulation Nurse Practice Act. Nurses may receive a maximum of 2.0 contact hours for completing this activity.
Awarded credit is dependent upon successful completion of the posttest and course evaluation.
