The Jean Dinges Memorial Scholarship & Endowment Fund
The Jean Dinges Memorial Scholarship and Endowment Fund at SIU School of Medicine was created in memory of Jean Dinges, who passed away in 2016 following a battle with cancer. This fund is being created to initiate an annual scholarship award for a first- or second-year female medical student at SIU School of Medicine. In turn, we hope to support female physicians dedicated to providing excellent quality health care in southern Illinois. Our Scholarship Fund has a goal of $25,000. Once this goal is reached, the Endowment Fund is self-sustainable, and the interest gained from that investment will be the annual scholarship awarded.
Jean was a vivacious woman with an extraordinary passion for life. Born and raised in Belleville, Ill., she was deeply committed to her community and caring for others. Many things brought Jean joy, but she was especially proud of her granddaughter, Kate Renner, MD, '16, for pursuing a career in medicine. Jean was an avid supporter of women's education - particularly of women entering careers in math, science and medicine. She often stated how proud and impressed she was of the education Kate received at SIU School of Medicine, and she loved to promote and support the school.
