Rural Health Initiative

The Rural Health Initiative is a major component of the School of Medicine's outreach efforts to assist rural and underserved areas in central and southern Illinois with increasing access to healthcare services, improving local healthcare infrastructure and identifying educational opportunities for medical students focused upon rural experiences. In its 20 years of existence, the Rural Health Initiative has worked with hospitals, federally qualified health centers, departments of public health, mental health centers, local planning groups and a variety of other entities, both public and private, to define local needs and identify solutions.

  • The RHI is administered by the Office of External and Health Affairs.
