The schedule described here is stratified by concurrent degree program year (CY). Thus, the first year of the program (CY1) is devoted exclusively to MPH-requirements and is based in Carbondale. The second year (CY2) is identical to the first year of medical school (MS1) and is also based in Carbondale. The next three years are based in Springfield, with no difference between CY3/CY4 and MS2/MS3. The final year of the program (CY5) differs in two ways from MS4: 1) students are required to choose at least some electives designed to fulfill MPH requirements, and 2) students must complete a practicum.

- During this time when MPEE slots are available students will be offered opportunities to participate in public health research with SIU-SOM faculty or gain experience with the local or state public health department.
CY3 (MS2): Springfield, combined medical and public health studies
Current medical school curriculum remains unchanged
CY4 (MS3): Springfield, combined medical and public health studies
Current medical school curriculum remains unchanged
CY5 (MS4): Springfield, combined medical and public health studies – 15 MPH hours (43 total to date)
- Selected SOM electives meeting SOM requirements and student desires
- Public Health Leadership elective
- Clinical Epidemiology elective
