FCM develops, implements and maintains an extensive third and fourth year elective program which supports 21 electives. Electives include:
  • Sub-internships with each of the four residency programs
  • Special interests in family medicine:
    • Physical Therapy
    • Women’s Health Issues
    • Minority Health Issues
    • Pharmacology
  • Over 75% of each class of students takes one or more FCM electives
  • SIU fourth year electives also have an international relationship with Aichi Medical University in Nagoya, Japan.
    • Each year, 2-4 students from Japan spend time doing FCM electives.
