Philanthropy is a critical part of the growth and development of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Gifts for scholarships, research, education and patient care provide a means to engage alumni, parents, friends, and organizations in supporting the School's mission: "To assist the people of central and southern Illinois in meeting their health care needs through education, patient care, research and service to the community." The SIU Foundation's Springfield Office collaborates with private donors, foundations and businesses to achieve the School of Medicine's strategic priorities as support for students, faculty and research.
Since admitting our first class in 1971, we have flourished into a nationally respected medical school with the help of dedicated support from our faculty, staff, community and friends. To maintain the level of excellence that has become synonymous with the School of Medicine, we need your continued support now more than ever.
Donors have many reasons to give to SIU School of Medicine. For some, a medical breakthrough discovered within our labs saved his or her life. For others, the desire to improve health in our communities drives giving.
Whatever the reason, your support helps us to sustain a legacy of advancing health in Southern Illinois and beyond through medical education, research and patient care. Everything you do to help advance our mission is greatly appreciated.
Support Medical Breakthroughs
Every day, Southern Illinois University School of Medicine scientists and investigators are unraveling the mysteries of illnesses such as heart disease, cancer, neurological disorders and hearing loss.
Extend Service and Help to Citizens of Downstate Illinois
As a community-based medical school, we are committed to caring for the people of the communities in which we serve. Help us help thousands who may not otherwise have access to quality health care by supporting our partnerships for better health in rural and low-income communities throughout downstate Illinois.
Educate Future Physicians, Scientists and Health Care Professionals
There is a physician shortage across the country, especially in rural Illinois. The majority of our state’s doctors will retire in the next two decades and it takes approximately 12-16 years to produce one doctor. The answer is clear. We need your support to make sure we are sufficiently preparing physicians and health care professionals to meet the demands of our citizens today and tomorrow.
Shape the Future for Better Health for All
Gifts solidify our legacy of innovations and ensure that SIU School of Medicine continues to serve the healthcare needs of Illinois citizens through funding of scholarships, professorships, and research. Donors may fund medical breakthroughs developed within our labs, improve patient care or provide the means for some to attend medical school. Your support to help improve healthcare is greatly appreciated.
