SPAM Filtering for Microsoft Outlook/Entourage Email Client (Win/Mac)
Windows XP
SPAM Filtering for Microsoft Outlook 2000,2002, and 2003
Mac
SPAM Filtering for Microsoft Outlook Express 5/Entourage 2001, X, and 2004
Note: Steps will be the same for all 3 versions, but screen shots may look a little different. These screen shots are taken from Microsoft Outlook 2002. Microsoft Outlook Express does not have the ability to filter email based on X-Spam-Scores.
In Microsoft Outlook go to Tools-->Rules Wizard (note: in Microsoft Outlook 2003 it is called "Rules and Alerts") and select "Start from a blank rule" then click "Next"
Then check "with specific words in the message header.
Click on "specific words" under the Rule description and enter the following: X-Spam-Score: ***** and click OK
The fewer asterisks '*' you enter the more likely you are to flag legitimate email as SPAM.
Choose the Action you want to do to the message: "move it to the specified folder". Then click on "specified" under Rule description.
Select the folder you want to move the email to. In this example it is moved to a "SPAM" folder. Click OK.
This is an example of a completed Rule. Notice I've also set an additional X-Spam-Score: ********** rule which will automatically delete e-mail with a SPAM score that is 10 or above.
Note: There may be slight differences between the look of the windows in different versions, but the commands will be basically the same. These screen shots are from Entourage 2004.
In Microsoft Entourage go to Tools Menu-->Rules-->Click on the Mail (IMAP) Tab and then click the "NEW" button in the upper left to create a New Rule.
Give your new rule a name such as "SPAM Filter".
In the If section of the rule, check that Execute is set to "if all criteria are met".
Click on the "All messages" drop down box and select "Specific header".
For Specific header type in: X-Spam-Score and for Contains type in: *****
The fewer asterisks '*' you enter the more likely you are to flag legitimate email as SPAM.
In the Then section of the rule, click Remove Action to remove the existing default actions.
Click on "Add Action" and select Move message from the drop down list and then select Choose folder. You can create a new folder in your Inbox labeled SPAM for example and Choose that folder to move your message to.
