Springfield Mac Mail Client v. 2.1: OS 10.4.10 SIUMED Email Configuration
Step 1: Importing the SOM CA root certificate
- Open Safari web browser and go to: http://www.siumed.edu/som.cacert
- Save the cert to your Desktop and rename som.cacert to som.crt
- Launch “Keychain Access” from Applications-->Utilities folder.
- Click on “Show Keychains” button to the bottom left.
- Highlight the "X509Anchors" keychain
- From the file menu, select Import…
- In the file selector choose the som.crt. You will be prompted for your Administrator password to import the certificate.

- Look in the Keychain Access window and highlight the X509Anchors keychain. In the window to the right scroll down until you see “Certificate Authority” this is the CA root certificate you just imported.

- Double-click the “Certificate Authority” and scroll down to “Trust Settings” and click the little triangle.
- From the “When using this certificate pop-up menu:” select “Always Trust”.
- Close the window and quit Keychain Access.
Step 2: Configuring the Mac Mail client
- Open Mac Mail
- Hit Continue to setup new account.
- Account Type: IMAP
- Account Description: SIUMED IMAP Account
- Full Name: <your firstname and lastname>
- Email Address: <your user@siumed.edu address>
- Click Continue
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.siumed.edu
- User Name: <your SIUMED userid> note: do not include @siumed.edu part
- Password: <your SIUMED email account password>
- Click Continue
- Incoming Mail Security
- Check the "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" box
- Authentication: select "Password" from the drop down box.
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.siumed.edu
- Check the box to “Use Authentication”
- User Name: <your SIUMED userid> note: do not include @siumed.edu part
- Password: <your SIUMED email account password>
- Click Continue
- Incoming Mail Security
- Check the "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" box
- Authentication: select "Password" from the drop down box.
- Click Continue
- Click Continue
- Click Done
Step 3: Setting Up Sent mail folder
- Click the triangle to the left of your “Inbox”
- Highlight your Sent folder
- Go to the Mailbox menu --> Use This Mailbox For -->Sent
Step 4: Setting Up LDAP Address directory The LDAP directory will find any SIUMED email address and auto complete when composing and email.
- Go to Mail --> Preferences and click on the Composing Menu
- In the Addressing section put a check by “Automatically complete addresses”and click on the “Configure LDAP…” button
- Click the “+” sign to add a new LDAP directory
- Name: SOM
- Server: ldap.siumed.edu
- Search Base: ou=People,o=SIUMED,c=US
- Leave the rest of the settings as they are and click Save at the bottom.
Troubleshooting:
If you are still unable to check or send mail double-check the following settings:
- In Mail-->Preferences-->Accounts section-->Advanced Tab make sure "Use SSL" is checked
- In Mail-->Preferences-->Accounts Section--> General Tab--> Click on "Server Settings..." button under Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP): section and make sure "Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL)" is checked.
