Upgrading from Netscape 7.2 Email Client
- Install Mozilla Thunderbird.
- Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
- In the Import Wizard window for Import Options, Account Settings, Addressbook and other data from: select Netscape 6, 7 or Mozilla 1.x and click Next.

- Click Finish.
New Mozilla Thunderbird Installation
- Open Mozilla Thunderbird.
- In Import Wizard window select Don't import anything Click Next.
- Choose Email account and click Next.

- Enter your name and email address in the spaces provided and click Next.

- Choose IMAP for the account type. In the Incoming Server field, enter imap.siumed.edu. In the Outgoing Server field, enter smtp.siumed.edu. Click Next.

- Enter your user name in the Incoming User Name field. Enter your user name in the Outgoing User Name field. Click Next.

- Leave the Account Name: as the default setting of your email address. Click Next.

- The Account Wizard will list a summary of your Email account settings. Click Finish.

- Configuration Steps to finalize your SIUMED account setup
Server Settings
- Go to Tools Menu-->Account Settings...
- Select Server Settings and set the following:
- Use secure connection: select SSL
- When I delete a message: select Mark it as deleted from drop down box

Outgoing Server (SMTP)
- Go to Tools Menu-->Account Settings...
- Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) and set the following:
- Highlight the SMTP server from the list and select Edit
- In the SMTP Server window select Use secure connection: TLS, if available
- Click OK
- Click OK

Directory Server
- Go to Tools Menu-->Address Book (MAC USERS: Go to Window Menu-->Address Book)
- Go to File Menu-->New-->LDAP Directory
- Enter the following:
- Name: SOM
- Hostname: ldap.siumed.edu
- Base DN: ou=People,o=SIUMED,c=US

- Click OK
- Close Address Book window
Importing SIUMED Certificate Authority
- Go to http://www.siumed.edu/som.cacert and save the file to your desktop.
- Open Thunderbird and go to Tools Menu-->Account Settings and click on the Security selection under your email profile. Click on "View Certificates".
- Click on the "Authorities" tab and then click "Import".

- Browse to the "som" certificate that you saved to your Desktop and click "Open". At this point you will be prompted to put a check next to the items for which you want to trust the "som" certificate authority. Check all 3 items and click OK.
Other Miscellaneous Settings
- Go to Tools-->Options
(MAC USERS: Go to Thunderbird Menu-->Preferences)
- Click on "Composition"-->General Tab and set Forward messages: Inline

- Click on "Composition"-->General Tab-->click "Send Options..." button and in the Text format box set to "Send the messages in both plain text and HTML"

- Click on "Composition"-->Addressing Tab and check the box for both Local Address Books and Directory Server: SIUMED

- Go to Tools-->Account Settings...
- Click on "Composition & Addressing " and select "start my reply above the quote"
