New Employee Orientation at SIU-SM
All Employees
All new employees start work on a Monday. That first day, they will spend the entire day in Human Resources participating in New Employee Orientation (NEO). New employees will be sent a hire packet listing the events of NEO and providing them with a parking sticker and a map of available SIU parking lots. New employees should be prepared to bring the following documentation with them on their first day of employment:
- voided check or deposit slip for the account into which they wish to have their paycheck directly deposited
- proof of eligibility to work in the United States, required for completion of the federal I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form
(List of acceptable documents) - copy of marriage license and social security number, if you intend to cover a spouse on insurance
- copy of children's birth certificates and social security numbers, if you intend to cover children on insurance
- copy of own birth certificate, if 50 years of age or older, needed on file at State Universities Retirement System
- medicare card, if 65 years of age or older and enrolled in Medicare Part A or B
- addresses and social security numbers for beneficiaries
- documentation of TB vaccination, if within last 12 months
- documentation of Hepatitis B vaccination
The basic agenda for NEO includes the following items:
- General Welcome and Introductions
- School of Medicine Informational Video
- Review of New Employee Binder (policies, maps, general information)
- Review of State of IL Ethics Training
- Completion of Employment/Payroll forms
- Photo Taken for ID Badge
- Health & Blood borne PathogenTraining
- Employee Benefits Review & Sign-Up
- Sexual Harassment Training
- HIPAA Training
All new employees are also provided with a list of additional mandatory training sessions that must be completed at other specified times. Attendance at mandatory training sessions are tracked and recorded.
