Borrowing

SIU faculty, staff, students, and residents may borrow library materials by presenting their current identification or appointment cards at the Circulation Desk. Users will be registered in the Medical Library circulation system which will then give them borrowing and renewing privileges in the Medical Library Catalog as well as the statewide I-Share catalog.

Media (DVDs, videocassettes, audiocassettes, slides) 4 weeks
Journals Library use only
Reference Books Library use only
Reserve materials 2 hours to 2 weeks.

Renewing

Renewals are permitted, if no other user has requested the materials. A recall/hold may be placed on circulating materials at a user's request. Materials may be recalled to the Library at any time, usually after the first four-week loan period.

Items checked out from SIU Medical Library:
Access your Library VU Find account to renew items. If you are unable to renew an item online, call the Circulation Desk at 217.545.2122 or stop by in person and ask to have the items renewed.
Items checked out from another library through I-Share:
Access your VU Find account to renew items. See the Instructions for Borrowing Materials Through the I-Share VuFind Catalog for more information on borrowing and renewing through VU Find.
Items from another library obtained through Interlibrary Loan (not through I-Share):
Contact the Interlibrary Loan Department at 217.545.2124 or email Int.Lib.Loan@siumed.edu.

Reserve Materials

Reserve materials may be requested at the Circulation Desk and are retrieved by library staff. These materials circulate on a limited basis; loan periods range from two hours to two weeks.

Laptop Computers and LCD Projectors

Laptop computers and LCD projectors are available for loan to SIUSM faculty, staff, students and residents. See Equipment Loan for additional information.
