SFX - Frequently Asked QuestionsAs the availability of electronic, full-text articles has grown, so has the complexity users and librarians face in trying to access those full-text articles. The SIU Medical Library’s Find It provides automatic linking from a journal citation to the full-text of the document, if available. Find It uses a link-resolving software product called SFX, which builds on an Open URL standard to resolve links from databases (such as PubMed) to full-text articles available via Library subscriptions, aggregated database licenses, and open access. Part of the SFX service is to maintain current content information on publisher and vendor packages, which allows the Medical Library to automatically link to journal content that was not previously possible with the Library’s locally developed and maintained E-journal list
What happens when I use Find It?When you click on the Medical Library’s Find It button Where will I see the Find It button? At this time, PubMed and MDConsult will show the Medical Library Find It button: How do I get started? If you do a search in PubMed and see the Medical Library Find It button - I have a citation, but am not searching PubMed, now what?Go to the Medical Library Citation Linker (http://sfx.carli.illinois.edu/sfxsim/cgi/core/citation-linker.cgi) and enter as much information as you have, click “Go”. I liked the E-Journal list. How can I see if I have access to a specific journal? The E-Journal list has been replaced by the SFX A-Z list (http://sfx.carli.illinois.edu/sfxsim/a-z). At this site, you can search a journal name or scan an alphabetic list. Because we are now able to automatically include journal titles available to you through packages, this list is much longer than the old E-Journal list and not limited to medical and scientific titles. If full-text is available, you may click the journal title to initiate a year or volume search. Or, you may click the SFX logo What about off-campus access?Find It is available from off-campus. Accessing the full-text article depends on the access requirements of that title (some are only available on the campus network, some require user name / password, etc.) I still have questions. Please, just ask.
