Physician Suicide Awareness Day

Tuesday, September 17, 2019 - 12:15pm to 12:30pm

Assorted locations on SIU SOM campuses

Each year, about 400 physicians take their own lives in the United States. The deaths impact family, friends, colleagues and an estimated one million patients.

SIU Medicine will observe National Physician Suicide Awareness Day on Tuesday, September 17, with an event remembering those lost to suicide within our medical community and to raise awareness of the issue and resources available to help.

Everyone in the SIU School of Medicine family – employees, faculty and learners – is asked to take a moment of silence at 12:30 pm at a gathering site or wherever you are. We will pause together and remember, mourn, pay tribute to and send love to those in our community lost to suicide. Gathering sites on campus include will include the 801 N. Rutledge courtyard in Springfield and Lindegren, 1st Fl. Auditorium, Room 133, in Carbondale. (The auditorium will be open at noon for those wishing to gather.). If you’d like to help coordinate one, memorial ribbons, appropriate music and suggested short remarks can be provided. Please contact Dr. Christine Todd.
