Yamada. Textbook of Gastroenterology. 3rd Edition, Lippincott, Philadelphia, 1999. Another standard textbook of gastroenterology.
Sherlock, S. Diseases of the Liver and Biliary Systems. 10th Edition, Blackwell Scientific, Oxford, 1997. A very readable, relatively short account of liver diseases by the first lady of hepatology.
Schiff, L. and Schiff, E.R. Diseases of the Liver. 7th Edition, J.B. Lippincott Co., Philadelphia, 1993. A weighty, thorough text limited to liver disease.
Zakim and Boyer, T.D. Hepatology; A Textbook of Liver Disease. 3rd Edition, W.B. Saunders Co., Philadelphia, 1996. Another big liver book for serious students of this organ.
Cope, Z. Cope's Early Diagnosis of the Acute Abdomen. 18th Edition, Oxford University Press, New York, 1991. Every medical student should read this description of the acute abdomen, either now or on your surgery rotation.
