During the outpatient experience, students spend two weeks in general internal medicine clinics and two weeks in subspecialty clinics. The subspecialty clinics are chosen by the each student based on their individual preference. They can choose either to spend one week or two weeks in that particular specialty. Some subspecialties prefer two weeks over one week. Students can choose from the following specialties: Cardiology (Prairie Heart, Springfield Clinic, or Spring Creek), GI/Hepatology (SIU), Hematology/Oncology (SIU), Infectious Disease (SIU), Nephrology (Central Illinois Kidney & Dialysis), Pulmonology (SIU), and Rheumatology (SIU).
All Internal Medicine Subspecialty Clerkship Rotation information can be found under the schedules/clinic and wards schedule/clinics(outpatient)/suspecialties on Desire2Learn’s Website.
