Due to restructuring of weight management treatment options at the SIU School of Medicine, the SIU Comprehensive Weight Management Program (COMP clinic), is no longer seeing new patients and will officially close on June 30, 2009. Patients being seen in the COMP clinic in the months prior to June 30, 2009 will continue to be followed to expedite surgical consultation and/or transition to another medical weight loss clinic prior to the COMP clinic closure. Please note that if you are currently attending the COMP clinic regularly, you should speak with your COMP physician at your next visit to discuss your individual care plan. If you have previously received weight loss surgery from one of the SIU surgeons (i.e., Dr. Sutyak, Dr. Peralta, or Dr. Ahad), please follow-up with your primary care physician at least once a year for blood testing to check for serious vitamin deficiencies. This follow-up is extremely important for your health. If you develop concerns about your prior bariatric surgery, please contact your surgeon directly. If you have friends or family who are interested in weight loss surgery, please refer them to the SIU bariatric surgery program at 217-545-9722. Because a future medical (or nonsurgical) weight management clinic at SIU is currently in the early planning phase, a potential “new and improved” option for medical weight management at SIU may become available within the next year. Feel free to call 217-545-2667 if you have questions or concerns. Sincerely, The SIU COMP clinic staff and physicians
