RISKS OF OBESITY

WHAT ARE THE HEALTH RISKS OF BEING OVERWEIGHT OR OBESE?

Being overweight or obese is associated with a significantly higher risk or development of other medical illnesses. These include high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, gall bladder disease, heart disease, sleep apnea, heartburn and joint pains. In addition to these illnesses, obesity affects the quality of life and some people may suffer from social stigmatization and discrimination.

There is also evidence that sustained weight loss can reduce or even reverse some of the medical problems outlined above and improve life expectancy as well as the quality of life. Management of obesity is a complex and a life long process and requires a comprehensive and multidisciplinary approach.

Obesity is not just a cosmetic problem!

Studies show that there is an increased risk for diseases such as
Diabetes
High Blood Pressure
Arthritis
Sleep Apnea
Asthma
Heart Failure
Depression
Infertility
Skin Ulcers
Blood Clots
and some forms of cancer!
