Geriatric
Medicine is a specialty of Internal Medicine that is devoted
to the care of the elderly. At SIU School of Medicine, we
strive to teach students, residents and the public about
the unique issues surrounding the aging population. We provide
compassionate, comprehensive patient care to ensure that
the quality of the patient’s health and life is at
its optimum. And our researchers are leading the nation
in finding out the secrets to a long healthy life. Please

Richard
Rosher, M.D. is the Chief, Division of Geriatrics. He
is board certified in Internal Medicine and in Geriatric
Medicine and is a member of SIU Physicians and Surgeons.
He provides medical care to older adults and adults in the
outpatient, hospital, and long term care settings. His clinic
is located at 751 N. Rutledge, Room 1100. Dr. Rosher sees
patients who are hospitalized at both Memorial Medical Center
and St. John's Hospital. He regularly makes rounds at area
nursing homes to visit his patients.
Sherry
Robinson, PhD, RNCS follows older adults residing in
nursing homes, making rounds in between those of Dr. Rosher.
She focuses on functional assessment and nursing care issues
to supplement the medical care provided by Dr. Rosher. Additionally,
Dr. Robinson provides telephone consultation to family members
seeking advice and suggestions for care of their elder relatives.
Frequent questions are related to caregiver stress, availability
of medical care, managing various problems related to dementia,
nutrition, constipation, incontinence, and exercise.
