Division of General Internal Medicine

Dr. David Steward started the Division of General Internal Medicine at SIU School of Medicine in 1985. Our division has now grown to 19 members. We are the largest division within the Department of Internal Medicine. Division members perform three functions: education, research, and direct patient care. No two division members have exactly the same responsibilities. Many of the division members have significant administrative functions within the School. These include Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Residency Program Director, Medicine Clerkship Director, Chair of the Year 3 Curriculum, Associate Dean of Students, Doctoring Director and Division Chief.

DGIM members are noteworthy for their work ethic and their collegiality. Several members of the Division have received teaching awards from the residents and students for their outstanding teaching efforts.
