On-line Curriculum Vite

I was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. I attended the University of Pennsylvania for my undergraduate studies with a major in Biophysics and a Minor in Classical Studies. I have always enjoyed softball and played on the Varsity team during my first two years of college. After graduating from Penn in 1980, I attended Thomas Jefferson Medical College and received my MD degree in 1984. My medical education was partially funded with an Army Health Professions Scholarship and I entered Active Duty and pursued my Residency Training at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas from July 1984 until June 1987. After completion of my training, I was transferred to Kimbrough Army Community Hospital at Ft. Meade, MD where I served until my service obligation was completed in 1990.

Since then, I have worked in a variety of practice settings including a small town practice in North Carolina, a free clinic for the poor and in the VA system.

My family moved to Illinois and I joined the SIU Faculty in 1999. My husband is a Rheumatologist who also works with SIU. We have 3 children - Emily, Matthew, and Laura. We enjoy baseball, softball, swimming and horses.

As part of the Division of General Internal Medicine, I provide patient care in both the outpatient clinic and in the hospital. I work with the Internal Medicine Residents and medical students in both settings as well. For the past year, I have served as the Co-Chair of the Circulation Segment in the second year medical school curriculum. My special area of interest is improving the quality and value of health care. I am working to develop a curriculum that teaches quality improvement theory and tools combined with a hands-on project for the Senior Medical Residents.
