Susan Thompson Hingle was raised in Decatur, Illinois.She received her undergraduate degree in Zoology with honors from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She received her medical degree in 1993 from Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. While at Rush, she helped to found a free clinic for the medically underserved. She received a national award from the US Secretary of Health and Human Services for this project. She did her residency training in Internal Medicine at Georgetown University Medical center in Washington, DC from 1993-1997. She served as Chief Medical resident from 1996-1997. She was awarded the Wesley Oler Award for Outstanding Resident in 1996. She joined the faculty at SIU in May 1998. Her interests include women's health, preventive medicine and medical education. She is active as the clerkship directory, associate residency program director and in the doctoring curriculum for the medical students. In 2006, she received the Walter J. MacDonald Award for Young Physicians from the American College of Physicians. She married Kevin in April 1999 and has two sons, Thomas and Ryan.
