WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE ISSUES

Breast Cancer/Mammography

  • Important risk factors for breast cancer include female gender, over age 50, and family history of breast cancer.
  • The American Cancer Society recommends annual mammograms after the age of 50.
  • Mammography is a low dose x-ray equipment with high quality control standards used to screen for breast cancer and detect it in the early stages.
  • Regardless of the date or finding on the mammogram, all patients should report any lump in the breast to their primary provider.
  • Beast cancer in men is rare. If you feel a lump in the breast regardless of gender, you should bring it to the attention of your Primary Care Provider.
