EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE

Residents will develop their competency in evaluating and managing hematology/ oncology patients with the supervision of an attending physician in both inpatient and outpatient venues.

SJH Tumor Board 11:30 AM Every other Tuesday; St. John’s Hospital
Lung Tumor Board 12 PM, Mondays, MMC D228
Breast Center Tumor Board, 12 PM, Wednesdays, Bayliss Building

Rounds:

Daily with attending—average three hours daily

Clinics:

Heme/Onc: Four half-days weekly with attending.
Resident Continuity Clinic as assigned.
Multimodality clinic with surgery ½ day per week.
Breast Center: ½ day per week.

PATHOLOGIC MATERIAL

Reviewed on a case by case basis with attending physician and pathologist where appropriate to patient care.

METHOD OF EVALUATION

Resident evaluation by standard performance evaluation form, direct observation, and written examination. Resident feedback by written evaluation and face-to-face meeting. Program and faculty evaluation by standard performance evaluation form.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION BY FACULTY

Residents with little experience in the skills needed will observe and practice physical exam skills under direct supervision of attending physicians, while those with more experience will work with patients in concert with attending physicians.
