The residency office just received news that 100% of last year's graduating residents passed the American Board of Internal Medicine board exams. This is a great accomplishment and reflects the hard work of the residents and the faculty.
Congratulations to all of the SIU residents and students who participated in the recent ACP Illinois Downstate Meeting. A special congratulations to the following individuals: Suraj Arora for reeving the ACP Governors' Award for Outstanding Resident; Jessica Sampias for receiving the ACP Governors' Award for Outstanding Medical Student; Adil Sattar for first place in the oral vignette competition; Swapna Devanna for third place in the oral vignette competition; Trinadha Pilla for first place in the Reserach/QI poster competition.
Dr. John Godwin has been named by Castle Connolly Medical Limited as one of America's Top Doctors for 10 years in a row. This recognition comes through identifying, screening and selecting those physicians regarded by their peers as leaders in their specialties. Only a tiny percentage of physicians earn the prestigious recognition of America's Top Doctors. Even fewer have earned it 10 years in a row.
Dr. Laura Shea, Medicine/Psychiatry, has been elected president of the Sangamon County Medical Society for the year 2012.
Congratulations to Marcy Ashby, who was awarded a grant from the Public Health Institute of Metro Chicago for Expanded HIV Testing.
Karen Broquet, MD, was elected President of the Association for Academic Psychiatry for the period October 2011 to October 2012.
Dr. Susan Hingle has been elected as Chairman of the American College of Physicians Board of Governors. Dr. Hingle has been Governor of Downstate Illinois Chapter and will take over the leadership of the board in 2013.
Dr. Andrew Varney is the recipient of the 2012 Parker J. Palmer Courage to Teach Award by the ACGME, which honors program directors who find innovative ways to teach residents and to provide quality health care while remaining connected to the initial impulse to care for others in this environment.
The American Diabetes Association is awarding Education Recognition to the Diabetes Self-Management Program in our Division of Endocrinology.
Gary Rull, MD has been accepted to the Stanford Faculty Development Center's 2011 Clinical Teaching Program, taking place during October. He also has been appointed to the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 2 Ambulatory Medicine Test Material Development Committee beginning January 2012.
