EDUCATIONAL PURPOSE
In this rotation, residents will develop their skills in Inpatient
ICU management of acutely ill, often unstable patients. They will
learn to work as part of an ICU Team with nursing, respiratory therapy
and ancillary staff.

TEACHING METHODS
Conferences
Critical Care Conference, 2nd Tuesday of each month, Room D219
Rounds:
AM Rounds (usually start 8-9 AM, last 1-3 hours average) with faculty attending, all residents, students, and fellow (if available). Brief didactic sessions will follow rounds as per the teaching attending and fellow
PM Rounds (usually starting at 3 PM, M – F, last 1 hour) with day resident/student checking out to the afternoon resident. Fellow, if available, should oversee. Where indicated brief progress notes should be written on patients. (Lectures for students at SJH follows these rounds)

All procedures performed by residents must be supervised by someone ( qualified resident, faculty, or fellow) who has hospital privileges for the procedures being performed. The attending faculty should be informed prior to the procedure and ascertain adequacy of supervision.

METHOD OF EVALUATION
Resident Evaluation by Standard performance evaluation form. Each resident should meet with the attending faculty during the last week of the rotation for face-to-face feedback and review of performance.

LEVEL OF SUPERVISION BY FACULTY
Residents with little experience
in the skills needed will observe and practice exam and procedural
skills under the direct supervision of attending physicians or other
qualified individuals, while those with more experience will work
with patients in concert with attending physicians.
