NeuroOncology Clinic

The Neurological Oncology Clinic is the only clinic providing this subspecialty service in the region. Dr. Ayman Omar is the Director of Neurological Oncology and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

The clinic is the only "Clinical Center of Excellence" in the central and Southern part of Illinois offering the innovative tumor treating fields "NovoTTF" device for recurrent glioblastoma (GBM) patients. The device is currently FDA approved for patients 22 years and older with recurrent GBM who have failed standard chemoradiation. It is only available in some of the top cancer centers in the country such as Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, MD Anderson, Mayo Clinic and the Cleveland Clinic.

The device consists of a pulse generator connected to transducer arrays placed directly on a patients shaved scalp. It delivers continuous intermediate frequency alternating electric fields that are shaped to conform to a patients tumor based on his/her MRI.
