Dr. Hossam H. AbdelSalam Dr. AbdelSalam portrait has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor in neurology, specializing in pediatric neurology.  He is one of the new pediatric specialists recruited for St. John’s Children’s Hospital, a joint endeavor of SIU and St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

AbdelSalam recently completed a three-year fellowship in child neurology at Cleveland Clinic Foundation in Cleveland, Ohio, (2006) and a pediatric residency at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. (2003).

He was a faculty member following completion of a pediatric residency and earning his medical degree at Cairo University Pediatric Hospital in Cairo, Egypt (1998-2001, 1998, 1995).

AbdelSalam is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics.  He is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Neurology.  He is interested in treating children with headaches, epilepsy and neuron-metabolic disorders including mitochondrial disorders.  He received the lectureship award from the National Headache Foundation in 2005 for the best paper in the field of persistent headaches.

A native of Egypt, AbdelSalam is married to Ghada AbdelHamid and has three children.
