Dr. Harirama K. Acharya has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of neurology. His interests are general clinical neurology, neuro-rehabilitation and EMG-nerve conduction studies.

Previously, Acharya was an attending physician at Edgeware Hospital in Edgeware, England (1997), at Hawtat Sudair Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1988-91), and at several missionary hospitals in rural India (1985-87). He also was an assistant professor in medicine at St. John’s Medical College Hospital in Bangalore, India (1987-88, 1982-83).

He received his M.B.B.S. degree from Kasturba Medical College (KMC) in Manipal, India (1978) and completed an internal medicine residency at KMC in Mangalore (1981). He later earned membership in the Royal College of Physicians in the United Kingdom (1994). Acharya completed his residency in neurology and a neuro-rehabilitation fellowship both at SIU (2000, 2001).

Acharya is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and is a member of the American Academy of Neurology and the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
