Dr. Sajida Ahad has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of general surgery.  She specializes in bariatric and laparoscopic general surgery.  She is a member of the SIU Comprehensive Weight Management Program.

Prior to joining SIU, Ahad completed fellowships in surgical education research and laparoscopic surgery at the University of Washington (2006-08).  She completed her surgery residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. (2006).  She received her medical school degree at Aga Khan University Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan (1998). 

Ahad is board certified in general surgery.  She is a member of several medical societies including the American College of Surgeons, the Association for Surgical Education, and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons.  Her research interests include briefing-debriefing in surgical education, gastro-esophageal reflux disease and outcomes of bariatric surgery.
