Dr. Jatinder P. Ahluwalia has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an associate professor of internal medicine, specializing in gastroenterology.

Previously, he was on faculty at the University of Iowa (UI) Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City (2000-05). He also volunteered as a staff physician at the Free Medical Clinic of Iowa City and Mobile Clinic of Iowa City.

Ahluwalia completed a gastroenterology and hepatology fellowship and an internal medicine residency at UI (2000, 1997). He earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pa., (1994) and his bachelor’s at McGill University in Montreal, Canada (1984).

Ahluwalia is board certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology. His memberships include the American Society for Cell Biology, American Gastroenterological Association and American Association for Study of Liver Diseases. He has published more than 30 original articles and abstracts. His research interests include alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency, fatty liver disease and functional bloating.
