Dr. Janet Albers
joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in 1997. She is an associate professor of family and community medicine. [Note: She has since been promoted to professor.] She currently is associate chair of the department and director of the family medicine residency program.
Albers completed her residency at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine in Rochester, Minn. (1990). She earned her medical degree from SIU (1987) and her bachelor’s at Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington (1982).
She is board certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and is a diplomate of the National Board of Medical Examiners. Her memberships include the Association for Family Medicine Residency Directors, Societies of Teachers in Family Medicine and the American and Illinois Academies of Family Physicians as well as a board member of the Sangamon County Medical Society. She has been inducted into Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and has received both the Family Medicine Teacher of the Year and the Humanism in Medicine awards from SIU.
