Dr. D. Gordon Allan Dr. D. Gordon Allan portrait has been named chair of the orthopaedic surgery division at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. Allan, an assistant professor of surgery who joined the SIU faculty in 1990, replaces Dr. E. Shannon Stauffer, who has served as chair of the division since 1975. Stauffer will remain on the faculty as professor of orthopaedic surgery.

Allan completed a fellowship in reconstructive and orthopaedic oncology at the University of Toronto prior to joining the SIU faculty.

He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency and earned his undergraduate and medical degrees at the University of Alberta, Canada (1981, 1983, 1988). He also completed an internship at the Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada, and has studied medical intensive care at the Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore, Md., and orthopaedic surgery in Edinburgh, Scotland.

Allan is certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and is a Canadian Certified Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Academic Orthopaedic Society, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. His research and publications have focused on reconstructive surgery of the hip and knee.

A native of Canada, Allan is married to Natalie Allan, R.N., and has three children.
