Dr. Manuel A. Amaris Amaris has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of internal medicine.  A member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group, he specializes in general gastroenterology with special expertise in heartburn, swallowing difficulty and motility disorders of the gastrointestinal tract.

Amaris recently completed a three-year fellowship in gastroenterology at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee (2011).  He completed his internal medicine residency at Stroger Hospital of Cook County and Rush Medical College in Chicago (2005), where he also was an attending physician (2005-2008).  He also completed three research fellowships at the University of Alberta in Edmonton (1999, 2001, 2002).  Amaris earned his medical degree at the Universidad del Rosario School of Medicine in Bogota, Colombia (1996).

Amaris is board certified in internal medicine and is a member of the American Gastroenterological Association.  He has been published in several professional journals.
