Dr. Carl Arentzen has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as associate professor of surgery. He practices all aspects of cardiothoracic surgery.

Prior to joining SIU, he was in private practice in Springfield (1995-2004).

Arentzen completed fellowships in cardiovascular surgery and in research from the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. (1985, 1981). He also completed a research fellowship and earned his medical degree from Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. (1976, 1975). He completed his residency in general surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, Minn. (1983).

Arentzen is board certified in general surgery and thoracic surgery.
