Amber Avila, M.D., has joined the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as an assistant professor of family and community medicine and will provide care at SIU’s clinic in Springfield. She is also a member of SIU HealthCare, the medical school’s practice group.

Avila completed her residency in family medicine at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. (2013). She earned her medical degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine (2010) and her bachelor’s degree in biology at Southern Illinois University (2006).

Avila is certified in basic life support/advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support, neonatal resuscitation, and is board certified in family medicine. She is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Family Physicians and Illinois State Medical Society.
Avila and her husband, ­Carlos, reside in Springfield with their son.
