Dr. Richard M. Bass Dr. Richard Bass portrait has joined the faculty at the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine as professor of otolaryngology head and neck surgery, specializing in general otolaryngology, otology and allergy. He previously was on the SIU faculty as a volunteer (1976-2004).

Most recently, Bass was in private practice in otolaryngology head and neck surgery in Springfield. His previous appointments included chief of otolaryngology at the U.S. Army Hospital in Ft. Campbell, Ky. (1974-76).

A native of Chicago, Bass completed his general surgery internship at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago and a residency in otolaryngology-maxillofacial surgery at Northwestern University (1974). He earned a bachelor of science degree at Loyola University (1964), followed by his degree in medicine and a master of science degree in pharmacology (1968, 1969) at the University of Illinois Chicago.

Bass is board certified in otolaryngology. He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Academy of Otolaryngology, the American Head and Neck Society and the American Neurotology Society.
